I hate(d) the white space …. too!!! :)

One of the biggest complaints we had about, soon to be replaced, UI in Dynamics CRM was about the white spaces. We tried many different things to make our customers feel good about it but it was always a tough nut to crack. I never liked that interface myself so obviously my solution was to change the UI through customization or build end-user experience specific screens where OOB UI was just not usable. However, it was always a sore point but the good news is that it is all about to change…yay!!!

In CRM 2017 preview we will get text wrap. Can you imagine that we didn’t have it for so long? I once had a call with Client who didn’t like the fact that she could not read the whole text. I had to do a custom solution (unsupported) for her but guess what she would be the first one who will get to see this post. In addition there are boundaries for different sections. Users no longer have to keep track of when information about contact ends and account started. I am extremely happy because these were such basic things that were just not done right to start with. However, at-least our feedback has now been incorporated now which is awesome. Check out this quick little comparison between old and soon to come new interface.

Existing UI

I have marked some of things that have been fixed in this interface. This is 2017 preview so still not available for end users.

Changed UI

There is now support for color themes, font standardization and also multi select fields. In addition we are going to throw away our custom solution for multi-select because that is also part of the UI enhancements.

Very excited about this release. A lot of changes in the right direction. I just could not stop myself from sharing this with our customers.
