Multiple Sclerosis Foundation

No Banner Image found

Background: The Multiple Sclerosis Foundation was founded in 1986, at a time when no disease specific-treatments were available, to provide – through research and networking – information to people with MS about how to maintain their quality of life. As the organization grew, we noticed that many critical needs of those in the MS community were going unmet. Because of that, we shifted our focus to delivering services that directly benefit people with MS and their families, while continuing to offer the quality educational materials for which we were known. Today, MS Focus remains a leading source of accurate, unbiased information, and offers dozens of services that improve the lives of people with MS.

Donation Purpose: For those living with the condition, education is the key to a better quality of life. Learning about available treatments, symptom management, and coping techniques gives those with MS the tools to live at their best. Since we were established in 1986, the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation has been funded by the public. Funds raised by the Foundation go directly toward services designed to improve the quality of life for people with MS. As a publicly funded 501(c)(3) organization, the Foundation follows established accounting procedures and is audited annually by an independent CPA firm. Donating to this cause helps people become more educated on this disease and helps them gain access to services that help them enjoy a better quality of life.

Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centres (SKMCH&RC)

Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centres (SKMCH&RC) are state-of-the-art cancer centers located in Lahore and Peshawar, Pakistan. SKMCH&RC, Lahore was the first project of the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Trust, which is a charitable organization established under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 of Pakistan. Inspiration for making the Hospital Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre is the brainchild of Pakistan’s Cricket World Cup-winning captain and Ex-Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mr. Imran Khan. The inspiration to build the Hospital came after his mother, Mrs. Shaukat Khanum, succumbed to cancer in 1985. During his mother’s illness, he witnessed up-close the plight of poor cancer patients in the hospitals of Pakistan and realized the need for a specialized cancer center in his country. Being a developing country, where many do not have access to even elementary health care facilities, cancer was considered the ultimate symbol of hopelessness and almost certain death. Prior to the establishment of Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre in Lahore, no specialized institution for the comprehensive treatment of cancer existed in Pakistan. Imran Khan, therefore, decided to embark upon his dream of making cancer care accessible to the people of his country, regardless of their ability to pay. Hence, began the story of the enduring love of a son for his mother and of the passion of a nation.

Meals on Wheels

With over 5,000 independently run (not government financed) local chapters across the U.S., meals can be delivered to anyone who qualifies, and for a very moderate fee. At present, at least 18% of U.S. seniors have trouble obtaining or preparing the food they need. Of course, the food, catered to each senior’s dietary requirements (and delivered on the days he or she chooses), is essential to the recipient’s well-being, but MWA’s motto states their service is “More than just a meal.” For one thing, having this necessity taken care of may enable the senior to continue living in their own home versus entering a facility, good for both their self-esteem and pocketbook, and good for the community. Additionally, the social interaction that accompanies the meal is just also meaningful, benefiting both the senior and volunteer, helping to further promote that invaluable sense of community. To find out if you or someone you know would qualify for MWA, to volunteer, to make a donation, or to learn more about the significance of MWA’s actions, check out their website or phone their center in Arlington, VA: 1-888-998-6325. learn more:https://www.mealsonwheelsamerica.org/

BOLDEnthusiast response to COVID-19

As you all know we are going through unprecedented times. I want BOLDEnthusiasts to think of ideas on how we can help larger BOLDCommunity. I am proposing two ideas. Our biggest problem is that we cannot be on the ground but that is also an opportunity on how we can leverage technology to help others. 1. US focused (unless we build something similar in Pakistan or if there is already a service in Pakistan) a. Identify up to three households in your neighborhood with senior citizen above the age of 60. Establish communication with them and deliver grocery to them using instacart. AlphaBOLD will pay for service charges you pay to deliver grocery to them so they don't have to go out of their houses. You can just submit expense reimbursement. 2. Pakistan focused a. If we don't have a similar service as mentioned above then we should find a way to donate money to a trust or organization that is trying to provide food to people during this lock down. I would like to recommend Saylani Trust. https://www.saylaniwelfare.com/home Please vote for this if you agree. If you have better ideas then please create causes so people could vote for those. We do need to move quickly on this because this needs to happen now. -Tayyab

Donate for Covid-19 Medical supplies

https://www.projectcure.org/procure As hospitals across the U.S. brace for a surge in patients, health care workers say the protective measures taken over the next few weeks will be critical, according to CBS News' Carter Evans. Some government leaders worry the coronavirus pandemic could stretch hospitals to their breaking point while medical equipment shortages threaten to put doctors, nurses and patients at risk. "Nurses are being asked to actually reuse masks, including surgical masks, which provide no protection," Executive Director of National Nurses United Bonnie Castillo said. The medical supplies and medical equipment Project C.U.R.E. delivers to severely resource-limited communities save lives, make diagnosis and treatment possible, protect health workers and ensure better outcomes for surgery and emergency care. ProC.U.R.E. is Project C.U.R.E.’s linchpin program, through which we receive medical supplies and equipment from U.S. hospitals, medical manufacturers, wholesale distributors and individual donors. We operate large distribution facilities across the United States where we receive, process and ship these generous in-kind donations to hospitals, clinics and community health centers in need around the world. Because of our large international distribution network, almost every type of medical item can be accepted, and all donations are receipted for tax purposes.
